4K & 5K Information

Families will complete a preliminary screening using the Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ), a parent-completed child development screening. Families will receive a link to complete the questionnaire online. If additional information is needed, teachers will contact families directly.

Our half-day 4K program is located at Lake Mills Elementary School and is offered Monday–Friday in morning (8:05–10:50 AM) or afternoon (12:25–3:10 PM) sessions.

AM 8:05–8:40 | PM 12:25-1:00 Outdoor Play
Students begin the day with outdoor play alongside teaching staff. This time supports gross motor development, cooperation, and positive peer interactions.

AM 8:45–9:00 | PM 1:05-1:20 Math Activities
Children participate in hands-on math experiences focused on counting, number recognition, patterns, sorting, and one-to-one correspondence.

AM 9:00–10:00 | PM 1:20-2:20 Learning Through Play & Social Skills
Students explore classroom learning centers where they engage in purposeful play. During this time, children build problem-solving skills, creativity, independence, and practice important social skills such as sharing, turn-taking, and teamwork.

AM 10:00–10:20 | PM 2:20-2:40 Fine Motor Development & Projects
Students strengthen small muscle skills through activities such as drawing, cutting, tracing, building, and completing art or classroom projects.

AM 10:20–10:40 | PM 2:40-3:00 Literacy Learning
Children participate in activities that support early reading and writing development, including letter recognition, name writing, stories, songs, and phonological awareness activities.

AM 10:40–10:50 | PM 3:00-3:10 Closing Circle
We come together as a class to review the day, reflect on learning, share highlights, and prepare for dismissal.

Bus transportation for our 4K students is free.

Yes! Our 4-year-old kindergarten program offers on-site Wrap Around Child Care until the end of the school day.

The 4K Wrap Around Child Care Program provides convenient care for your child at school. The program encourages physical, emotional, social, and academic growth through play. Activities in the program include outdoor recess, free playtime, story/circle time, art, and learning activities.

Our goal is to create nurturing care for your child while creating an environment that complements your child’s school day.

Families interested in 4K before- or after-school care should complete the interest form, as we are currently finalizing the expansion of the program for the 2026–2027 school year.

Lake Mills Area School District online enrollment can be found on our Enrollment website. After completing enrollment, you will receive important information, including how to sign up for a round-up (orientation) session with your child on Thursday, March 12, between 3:45 - 6:00 p.m. 

The Lake Mills Area School District accepts requests for open enrollment through the Department of Public Instruction each spring. Open enrollment is available to families residing outside of the Lake Mills Area School District and allows students to attend a public school in a district other than the one in which they reside.
